Skinning wordpress from scratch tutorials (well nearly). Who’s interested?
Having just re-skinned the existem.com website to run 100% from Wordpress 2.5.2 its fair to say I have spent quite a lot of time within the inner workings of Wordpress.
I’ve also learnt some new, cool little tricks with css/php and xhtml along the way and i figured that it might be nice to run a series of tutorials on how to build a wordpress theme from the ground up employing these techniques.
So who’s interested? Leave some comments if this is something you would like to see and I’ll look at putting together a series of tutorials.

certainly am Mat - as long as it’s in words of one syllable and aimed at the ‘under 5s’ - then I think I could have a go ;)
I’m always up for wordpress tips and tricks!
Hope there’s enough interest for you to proceed.
Cheers
Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming.
I’m always up for learning new WP stuff. How about making it interactive so we can all share some best practices? I’m sure we’ve all got something to offer. It would be good to hear which plugins you’re using too.
@gadget
Yea I’m well up for that, i’ll see if i can set up a forum section on affiliates4u for feedback/input.
I’m sure it will make the exercise more valuable if interested parties contribute, i’m approaching it from more of a design angle so would be great to get input from SEO experts, developers and other designers also.
Plugins wise this site is quite light, its running Akismet, Joost De Valks contact form and this cool include plugin on the homepage
Absolutely, something that would come in handy for many people myself included.
Cheers

How about a best ‘ping’ list?
This may be a step too far but one thing that I can’t get a handle of is .htaccess files and their importance re WP / MySQL etc.
More fundamentally, layout do’s and dont’s such as 1,2,3 columns - sidebars - colours - basic seo requirements like title & meta tags plus all the other stuff.
@gadget
Yea sure, I’m really going to be looking at:
1. The process of designing & comping the site
2. Coding in a structured and clean way
3. Cross browser issues, and tricks for graceful degrading in old browsers
4. Converting your code into a wordpress theme
5. Adding and styling plugins
I’m defo not and SEO expert, (I know about the basics of structure/page titles etc..) so I won’t cover this in too much detail. However if someone whats to ‘take the reins’ and really SEO the theme then I’d be happy to let them
